Heute erreichte uns eine Email von Scooby, die wir selbstverständlich hier veröffentlichen.
Wir möchten hierzu nur kurz noch etwas anmerken: Wir verstehen das Dilemma von Scooby, aber hoffen inständig, daß eine andere Lösung gefunden wird.
"Dear members of Windhundhilfe,
today we received a few e-mails from Germans who are referring to a comment on your website about our update about the adoption problems in our shelter. You are making a negative statement against this, which is your good right since we live in a democratic Europe. However I hope you will give us the opportunity to respond, so that your website visitors can read both sides of the story. It hurts a lot to read about this, you should realize that nobody in the Scooby shelter can make decisions like this without tears in their eyes. However, the only option that is mentioned until now, is to take no more dogs in our shelter, to close the eyes for stray dogs and dogs that are offered to Scooby by hunters. I think it is well known what some hunters have in mind for option if shelters refuse to accept a dog. The question is: is it better to refuse a dog and later perhaps cut the rope he is hanging on in a tree in the forest? Is it a good option to look the other way and leave a stray dog run free, without food and water starving to death, or wait until he gets hit by a car on the highway? Or is it more humane to give a dog a painless death after a good meal in a shelter, after he had the chance to have a good life without fear and enough food available? It is really awful to play for God and make decisions like this, as you can read in the mentioned update. But if the other option is that a dog will suffer a cruel death, the choice is not so difficult anymore.
I hope that with this explanation you have more understanding for what we are trying to say. We would also like to tell you that you are very welcome to visit the Scooby shelter some time to see what the problem is, and how it is to see a hunter open the trunk of his car in the extreme heat, and see the head of a galgo completely in fear who has no idea what is going on, and then realize how it would be to say no and see the man leave again with the dog in the trunk of his car, destination well known. We are fully aware of the fact that there is no good solution, but we should try to follow the less worst one, and that is to choose for the avoiding of suffering in the first place. And hopefully with the help of many people, to find homes for as many dogs as possible.
